Simple Steak Rub

A simple steak rub is a great way to add flavor to meat. It is especially useful if you're using a cheaper cut of meat and/or a lower quality grade of beef.
Remember a great steak doesn't need a rub or marinade to make it better. Rubs and marinades can enhance or even deter from the flavor of a good steak, so choose wisely.

I prefer a lightly seasoned "approach" to allow the natural beef flavor to come through.

  • smoked sea salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • brown sugar
  • chili powder
  • garlic

  • Mix ingredients together, rub into both sides of steak.

  • smoked sea salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 thyme
  • 3/4 tsp coriander
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • Mix ingredients together, rub into both sides of steak.

Rubs and marinades are a great way to experiment; create a couple of different rubs and use on a few different steaks. Sample and take note of your preferences. Revise and Repeat.Good cooks experiment trying again and again until it's perfected to your preference.
