"Kobe-style" is beef taken from domestically-raised Wagyu crossbred with Angus cattle. US and British farmers have tried to mimic Kobe traditions by giving their Wagyu cattle beer and muscle massages.
Wagyu beef imports were banned from the US in 2001 during the BSE scare also known as mad cow disease. Though that ban was lifted in 2005, the beef has limited availability making it a more expensive product than other beef.
